Verge Price Prediction for 2021, 2025 and 2030

Just like the entire market, Verge Currency had a spectacular start of the year but by now the correction is settling. Where can XVG move next, then? With all this in mind, let’s take a look at Verge price prediction 2021 and beyond.

Verge Price Prediction 2021–2030

[table id=35 /]

  • Most of the predictions, moderate or positive, agree that in the future XVG will grow in value;
  • Verge price prediction 2021 is more bullish than not, but experts are unanimous that we won’t see a new ATH this year;
  • Analysts speculate that XVG can reach $1 not earlier than in 2025.

What is Verge Currency?

Verge Currency is a cryptocurrency with optional privacy functionality. Launched in 2014 as Dogecoin Dark, it was rebranded later in 2016 as Verge Currency.
Since then it has secured a few significant partnerships and introduced several game-changing technical updates. For example, Wraith protocol enables stealth transactions, in which some information like an address or transferred amount can be hidden.
For more information on the origins of Verge Currency, you are welcome to read our Beginner’s Guide on XVG.

Verge Price History

XVG Price in 2014–2016

Source: CoinMarketCap

Verge Currency, or Dogecoin Dark at that time, was launched without a premine or ICO. Basically, this means that the Verge coin’s price started at zero.
Only in early 2015 its price was able to fix above $0.00001 USD. Back then, XVG’s price was volatile and would often rise to $0.00002 but then go back to $0.00001.
In February 2016 its first bull market began and it took the XVG price up to $0.000211 by March. This is certainly tied to the rebrand to Verge Currency.
The 2000% increase over three months, however, would not go without correction. The XVG price was back to $0.00002–$0.00003 levels by June.

XVG Price in 2017–2019

In the following years, Verge coin price would see another bull market, and even more impressive than the previous. In April 2017 the XVG price started to gain incredible momentum.
By the middle of the month, the Verge coin’s price had more than doubled. In May it was already five times the year’s opening price at $0.001673.
But it was only upward from there and until the end of 2017. The current ATH was observed on December 23, 2017, when Verge was worth $0.300588.
Coincidence or not, just before the 2700% pump, John McAfee made a tweet that endorsed privacy coins such as Verge Currency. This was not the last time he would talk about it, but over a few weeks his statements became more bearish.
2018 was the year when Verge Currency became known as the partner of Pornhub. During March and April, Verge coin’s price significantly added in value, from $0.03 to $0.111 on the day of announcement.
2019 opened with 1 XVG being worth $0.006851, and in the first half of the year, it was showing promising results. The following bear market took the XVG price down to $0.003263 by September, 2019.

At the very beginning 2020, Verge opened at $0.003 and with the rest of the market, it experienced a bullish trend. The global pandemic caught up to the XVG’s price, too, but the recovery did not take too long.
The May and June spikes correspond to the announcements of MeconCash and MobiePay partnership announcements respectively. XVG holders closed 2020 in the green but it was dwarfed by the performance in 2021.
Following Bitcoin, XVG rose parabolically and managed to reach $0.08482 in May. And like in BTC, there was a harsh correction to match the rapidness of the growth.
At the moment of writing, the price of one XVG is $0.02288. The circulating supply is 16,456,958,844 XVG and the total market capitalization of the currency is $376,912,426.16 (rank 120 according to CoinMarketCap).

What Influences the XVG Price?

Technical Updates

Verge Currency faces serious competition with other privacy coins, especially considering Verge has both innate and opt-in privacy features. It all hinges on the success of Verge team’s technical updates and improvements that will make Verge coin more competitive.
Rootstock, for one, can make a huge difference to the utility, and therefore, value of the network. The protocol can enable smart contracts on the chain and further improve the throughput.

Adoption and Partnerships

This would not surprise anyone that all cryptocurrencies strive to become the digital money for the masses. For that, they need partners and solid use cases.
For Pornhub, Verge is the cryptocurrency of their choice that passed a strict selection procedure. For MobiePay, Verge is the launch partner, meaning both of them will be spearheading adoption among the ecosystem’s users.
Verge Currency is also a strategic partner of Voice Life, a far-field wireless charging technology developer. They intend to leverage the power of the Verge blockchain to monitor and secure the connections.

Markets and Exposure

Last but not least, if we’re talking price in the moment and not value,it all comes down to trading. New listings help expand the market and even boost the value by helping more users get their hands on the coin.
In June 2021, XVG pairs became active on Binance, one of the largest crypto exchanges at the moment.

Interview with Justin Vendetta, Founder of Verge Currency

Today’s interview is special for our team and, we believe, for all the community: we talked with the man behind privacy-centered Verge Currency, known as Justin Vendetta in the interwebs. He told us how the project started, how it felt to see it take off the ground and what future he thinks is possible for Verge and crypto in general. Without further ado, enjoy the talk!

Early Days

ChangeHero: From DogecoinDark to Verge. What caused this rebranding? Could you tell us the reason behind choosing these two names?
Justin: Well, I was mining dogecoin at the time, and was always around the message boards and chats. I loved the concept of it. When I launched the blockchain, I thought a very high supply was a good idea, long term. People (including myself) love having a bunch of coins, even if they are a low value. It was fun to tip people and such. After I released a ton of software for DOGED, community members suggested it would be a good idea to rebrand to something more serious, since everyone was starting to take the coin more seriously. We came up with a list of 5 names i think, and set up a week long poll. Verge was the winner!
ChangeHero: What triggered you to begin working on Verge?
Justin: I was operating a mining pool, and so many altcoin projects with premines kept launching, making big promises but never coming through. I was literally adding 2-3 new coins a day, just to have to take them down a week later when the team disappeared. By this time I had become very familiar with Bitcoin and Bitcoin-based blockchains, and decided I should start my own, for fun, and actually try to see what I could accomplish. I never expected it to become this big, but I am very proud of it, and that so many people appreciate my community based, non-ICO/no premine approach.
ChangeHero: Verge is all about privacy. What made you decide that it should be around this?
Justin: I think harvesting peoples data is a breach of their basic rights. The Internet was created to exchange information quickly, across wide areas. Companies that data mine are not the ones paying for operating the Internet infrastructure. Why should they be allowed to take people’s information and sell it? It just doesn’t sit well with me.
ChangeHero: What was your favourite privacy-oriented cryptocurrency before the existence of Verge?
Justin: Xcoin, which soon became Darkcoin was probably the only coin taking privacy seriously at the time. Bytecoin was another, but it was Cryptonight based, and had a difficult entry level for inexperienced crypto users because of the lack of a GUI. Monero had launched at that time as well, but it was just a copy of Bytecoin.

Community and Team

ChangeHero: What were your initial thoughts while working on the Verge? How did the community react to your proposal at the beginning?
Justin: Well, since I knew nothing about marketing, I just got friends involved that I had met in various crypto chat rooms. They liked the idea, and some of my initial pieces of software for Verge were from their suggestions. I really thought it would just be something I did as a hobby between jobs for other coins.
ChangeHero: Verge has one of the biggest communities in crypto. Did you expect such a humongous response? Could you share with us a situation where you felt that you have the support from people?
Justin: On New Years Eve, 2017, I was rushing to release an update. Someone contacted me shortly after midnight. They mentioned they had been watching my github repository, and realized I was at the computer for midnight, working. They had sent me 1BTC as a tip and sign of appreciation. At that time, BTC was valued at something like 16,000.00USD. I actually cried when I saw that, and I still get emotional thinking about it. They even refused to tell me who they were, and deleted their account shortly after. Ok, now I’m getting emotional. There are some really wonderful people in crypto.
ChangeHero: Verge is completely open-source and supported by volunteers. What makes the volunteers stick with the project and contribute?
Justin: Exactly that! Open source developers love to contribute to open source software because they don’t feel exploited, there is no boss telling them to hurry up and work, and they get to see a very large community be pleased with their work! Anytime Verge is mentioned anywhere, I hope everyone who has contributed feels proud to know they are a piece of it.

Business, Partnerships and Adoption

ChangeHero: There are other privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies like Monero and Zcash. What sets Verge Currency apart from the rest?
Justin: We have no founder’s rewards, and no premine. Also we did not fork from a privacy-based coin to begin with. We focus more on protecting the users IP address for privacy, than we do on hiding transactions.
ChangeHero: Do you think XVG is undervalued?
Justin: That’s a difficult question. I’ve seen what marketing alone can do to a coin that has no features at all, and I’ve seen excellent projects fall to the bottom. For instance, I think Peercoin is a very undervalued project. It is the original Proof-of-Stake coin, yet it’s ranked something like #500. However, the code is up to date, it’s still maintained, and it’s listed on many exchanges. In my opinion, if substance really matters, it should be much higher valued than 75% of the projects between it and #1.
ChangeHero: We believe that Verge Currency is one of the few cryptocurrencies driving adoption. Partnership with PornHub can be considered as a milestone. How did this collaboration begin?
Justin: They actually approached us. They loved our sense of community. Pornhub is very community-oriented as well, and they understand that large communities are necessary to make big strides. Also I believe our lack of an ICO or pre-mine, makes us very attractive from a legal perspective.
ChangeHero: Could you give us some stats on PornHub transactions?
Justin: It used to be relatively easy to tell from the invoice on the PornHub site, but since the payment processing software had updates, it’s a bit different now. The last time it was displayed on the invoice, it was in the tens of thousands. We’ve also given tech support via Twitter to many of the PornHub Models who prefer to be paid in Verge.
ChangeHero: Any other exciting partnerships ahead?
Justin: Yes, but you’d have to sign an NDA ;p
ChangeHero: What do you think is stopping the people from using crypto?
Justin: Probably the talking heads on television, who fear crypto wrecking the inflationary fiat markets. People like Peter Schiff can’t stop talking about how bad bitcoin is, yet it continues to go up and prove him wrong.

Rapid Round

ChangeHero: Bitcoin or Ethereum?
Justin: TRICK QUESTION! BOTH! I have a lot of respect for vitalik and the incredible platform he has created. He literally re-invented the blockchain. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it is better, but it is unique and has grown massively! I find it interesting to see it suffer from the same issues Bitcoin did as it grew, like network congestion, high transaction fees, and exploits/vulnerabilities. Things like that occur naturally with growth. I hope Vitalik is very proud of what he’s done.
ChangeHero: Trade or Code?
Justin: For me, code. I SUCK at trading lol
ChangeHero: TOR or I2P?
Justin: Tough one. TOR because of the size of the network. I2p has a great future though, and is very different from the TOR tech.

In to the Future

ChangeHero: Did you face any challenges? What was the most important lesson that you’ve learnt after coming into crypto?
Justin: I’d be lying if I said no. I think any project would. The most important lesson is probably that all software eventually has an exploit. Always stay on guard, and always do research.
ChangeHero: Do you think Verge or any other crypto can replace fiat?
Justin: That depends on government regulations, I think. As long as countries get the right leaders that understand it, I think it will replace fiat. Paper fiat is already being replaced by digital fiat. Once more people learn about inflation, vs crypto which deflates, it’s a no brainer, and people get hooked. I know I did.
ChangeHero: Would you just live off crypto?
Justin: Absolutely. I commend people like Didi Taihuttu (@diditaihuttu), who gave up most of his possessions and fiat years ago, to travel around with his family and live off of crypto. He’s a very energetic and fun guy, and definitely “practices what he preaches” so to speak.
ChangeHero: How do you see the future of Verge and crypto industry?
Justin: Slow growth, explosive growth, slow growth, explosive growth, repeat, until everyone is in!
And that concludes the interview! Thanks to Justin for taking the time for this conversation. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

What is Verge Currency? A Beginner's Guide By ChangeHero

Verge Currency has the ambitious goal of becoming a widely accepted means of payment. The partnerships that put Verge in the spotlight prove there are plenty of attractive things about XVG. In this Verge guide, ChangeHero team is going to introduce Verge token XVG and how it drives crypto mass adoption.

Key Takeaways

  • Verge Currency is a cryptocurrency which is suitable for everyday transactions and has optional privacy features. IP obfuscation is done with the help of TOR and I2P. The Wraith protocol of XVG allows users to optionally mask the addresses;
  • Verge is traded under the ticker symbol XVG. Thousands of sellers online and offline accept payments in their stores. Verge is known for its partnerships that make strides for mass adoption worldwide: PornHub, MobiePay and MeconCash.
  • Verge halving has just happened, reducing the miner reward from 200 to 100 XVG. Along with it, the issuance rate of the currency slowed down. It is given significance, since the event is supposed to increase the demand to supply ratio.

What is Verge Currency (XVG)?

Verge Currency logo
Source: Verge Currency

Verge Currency (XVG) is an open source cryptocurrency protocol and its decentralized network, designed as a medium of peer-to-peer value exchange. Like Bitcoin, Verge’s founding principle is decentralization and independence from intermediaries, as written in Verge Currency’s blackpaper.

However, Bitcoin did not provide enough privacy to its users. The Verge developers decided to address the privacy and scalability issues of Bitcoin.

As a result, the transactional throughput is higher in Verge network, making it viable for daily transacting and a user-friendly digital currency. At the moment, XVG can handle 100 transactions per second.

But most importantly, Verge can boast opt-in privacy features, while keeping all transactions soundly recorded on the blockchain.

Verge Crypto Beginnings and Team

Verge as a project started in late 2014 under the name Dogecoin Dark. Initially, it was a one-man development team by Justin, also known by his pseudonym Sunerok.

Some time later the community formed around the coin and a team of volunteers joined the cause. In 2016, Dogecoin Dark rebranded to Verge Currency.

At the moment, the Verge team is quite large, handling tasks like development, marketing, business development on a voluntary basis.

Notable XVG Features

Obfuscation of IP addresses

Verge coin is renowned for its privacy features made possible by blockchain technology. They are completely optional and customizable.

This is achievable thanks to the integration of TOR and I2P. Both TOR and I2P direct traffic through network participants to obfuscate the sender’s whereabouts.

The difference is that TOR is circuit-based and I2P is packet-based, meaning the latter can also reroute traffic around congestion. TOR bounces data between a network of relay computers, changing the IP data of the sender constantly.

Traffic coming into I2P is spread between participating computers, so the incoming and outgoing channels are processed separately. Having two systems in place guarantees sustainable uptime and effectiveness of the mechanism.

Wraith Protocol: Empowering Privacy

Wraith Protocol - Verge
Wraith Protocol is the private ledger that enables private transactions, alternatively to the public ledger. Source: Official Verge blog

With Wraith protocol, Verge network users can opt-in to use two kinds of private transactions: stealth shielded and anonymous.
Stealth opt-in transactions guarantee receiver’s anonymity: in such a transaction, one-time wallet addresses are created on behalf of the recipient. It is impossible to link one-time stealth addresses with the original receiver’s address or with each other.

Stealth transactions can be handy when some transparency is required, for example, for accounting purposes or fundraising.

Anon transactions enable full privacy by combining address obfuscation with RingCT (ring signatures) and IP obfuscation with Tor/I2P. In an anon transaction, all the data is encrypted and seen only by the transacting sides. The ledger only registers the fact that a transaction took place but it is not visible to an outsider.

What else? Well, for one, Verge has the support of Atomic swaps. Thanks to it, Verge XVG can be traded cross-chain with other currencies on decentralized exchanges.

What is XVG?

Verge Currency uses a native coin that goes by the XVG ticker. Verge’s vision is a coin for daily use that is fast and keeps the privacy of its users protected.

It is indeed faster than Bitcoin and has the potential to scale better. Verge has a small fixed fee of 0.1 XVG for sending transactions. Until mainstream adoption is fully achieved, the XVG price is decided solely by the existing market.

Like Bitcoin, it is a deflationary currency with a hard cap on its supply. Right now, out of 16.555 billion XVG, 16,424,512,866 XVG (99%) are already in circulation.

XVG price chart for 2015-2021
Source: CoinMarketCap

Up until mid-2017, Verge was changing hands at no more than 55 satoshis ($0.000191 at the time). A first real bull run started in May 2017 and culminated in December.

An unexpected rise took the XVG price up to a current all-time high — $0.300588. Just like with the rest of the crypto market, the correction was as abrupt.

The hype before the Pornhub partnership announcement in April allowed the Verge price to recover almost up to $0.108695. The anticipation was building up for months and the partnership is indeed large, so it’s not surprising at all.

The price momentum couldn’t be saved, though, and by the end of 2018 XVG scraped the levels of 150–200 satoshis. 2019 was not kind to Verge, and as a result the 2020 opening price was only 50 sats ($0.003555).

Surprisingly, the COVID-19 pandemic induced global economic shock did not seem to affect XVG drastically. Instead, it entered a slow but steady uptrend.

In the second half of 2020, Verge XVG almost reached 1 cent in July, but got rejected back down to $0.005 USD price. Another attempt at breaching this level happened at the start of Bitcoin’s rally in late November.

However, it was finally overcome only in 2021, and so far XVG price stayed above $0.012. At the moment of writing, the XVG price is $0.004906 and by market capitalization it ranks 308th.

Verge XVG Halving

What is Verge halving? Like Bitcoin, Verge XVG goes through the miner reward halving procedure to keep the issuance deflating.

Verge halving occurs roughly every 210 days due to fast block times. The first 2021 XVG halving happened on January, 26. The block reward was reduced to 100 XVG. Another one will take place in September 2021.

Both these events delay the total supply of Verge XVG from being completely minted. This in turn will keep miner’s rewards in place for a bit longer.

When the XVG max supply will be minted, miners will only receive rewards from transaction fees. New XVG coins will not be issued, and in theory, the value will be accumulated in the existing coins.

Where to spend XVG?

In addition to the already mentioned Pornhub digital payments option, there are quite a few merchants that accept Verge (XVG). It can be shops that have cryptocurrency gateways like XCELPAY installed for digital payments, or businesses that choose to accept XVG themselves.

You can buy a large variety of goods from the shops that support the Verge cryptocurrency.

You can also use XVG to tip Twitter, Discord and Telegram users with the help of bots. They are easy to use with commands only and do not need to be installed anywhere.

Comparison with Similar Projects: Dash

The closest to Verge cryptocurrency in the design principles project would be Dash. Dash is a UTXO-based lightweight P2P value transfer protocol with optional privacy features.

When Dash was recently delisted from Bittrex, the team made it clear that the currency was not meant to be a “privacy coin”. Verge also positions itself as a currency for digital payments with privacy features.

Dash is a UTXO cryptocurrency, and has some limitations inherited from the Bitcoin protocol. As a result, its throughput is quite modest in comparison to Verge: only about 30–60 tps.

What is Verge Criticized For?

Verge coin has seen some controversy during its lifetime. In late 2017, John McAffee expressed his support of Verge, putting it on par with Monero and Zcash.

A few days later, after XVG started to experience the correction from the $0.3 ATH, McAffee did a turnaround. He claimed he had never endorsed the Verge cryptocurrency as an investment for a reason outside of its cheap price.

However, the more damaging event, or more precisely, a string of events, happened later in 2018. In April 2018, a hacker managed to mine 250,000 XVG by exploiting block timecodes in a 51% attack.

The fix that Sunerok rolled out resulted in a hardfork. The attack was repeated in May, that time, a hacker got hold of $1.7 million worth of XVG.

Despite this, the community support in Verge coin was not shaken, and the fixes were implemented in the new codebase.

Verge Partners

Verge is most known for its partnership with Pornhub. The adult content platform picked Verge coin specifically for its privacy features, safety and security after a selection process.

Even the critics of Verge admit that this use case is significant and will help with the adoption of cryptocurrencies. After Visa and Mastercard refused to provide services to the platform, crypto is the only option to support the models.

Most recently, Verge and Voice Life announced a strategic partnership to create a powerful and fast mobile charging system. Verge provides the blockchain technology to support Voice Life’s innovations.

As a part of the Fueled by Verge initiative, the community partnered with Manny Pacquiao Foundation. The foundation accepts donations in XVG and helps with housing for the families in need while raising awareness about the digital currency.

Other participants of the initiative include Nascar racer Gil Linster and eSports Upstate Racing League.

What is Verge Currency’s Future?

The Verge development team does not have a roadmap for years ahead. Their approach is not to plan further than for three months, since everything in crypto space changes so quickly.

There is, though, a massive feature that is planned for release some time in the future. It is the Rootstock (RSK) sidechain implementation.

RSK is a sidechain that enables Ethereum style Turing-complete Virtual Machine infrastructure (i.e. smart contracts) onto Bitcoin-based blockchains. Not only will it help with building on-chain but also increase transaction throughput up to 2000 per second.

Who are the Verge Fam? Verge on Twitter

The Verge coin supporters call themselves Verge Fam or Verge Army. The community can be found on the most major social media sites and services: Twitter, Reddit, Discord and so on.

What is happening with Verge XVG? There is no one better to answer this than the Verge Fam social media accounts!

One of the hot topics in the community is the upcoming Verge halving. It’s not so long before the full supply enters circulation, but halving postpones the process. At this point, it is still important to have incentives for miners and keep flow of currency for new users.

The Verge community focuses on outreach and adoption. One of Verge’s partners, NetCents disclosed the details of the process of launching their brand crypto card. When it is finished, card users will be able to use XVG for daily payments and purchases.

The most discussed Verge news is in connection with the announcement of wireless charging technology by VoiceLife. The unique technology powered by the Verge blockchain is able to charge a device fully in just two minutes.

Where to store XVG?

The Verge team developed an official vergePay QT wallet in the form of clients for most platforms: Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux. It provides access to all the features of the blockchain, like opt-in privacy. However, QT will require a full copy of the Verge blockchain (~1 GB).

Electrum is another wallet integrated into the system. With it, users can use MultiSig on the Verge chain. Simple Payment Verification makes transactions even faster and eliminates the need to download a copy of blockchain. Electrum clients are compatible with Trezor hardware devices.

Rounding Up

The most interesting and viable projects are not always the ones attracting the most capital. However, by standing the test of time and keeping the loyalty of the community, Verge crypto platform proves that it deserves the place higher in the market cap rank. There’s no telling where the impending Verge halving will take the currency. In the long term, though, Verge’s future is looking fine.
